Pouring a Concrete Slab

When pouring a concrete slab for the purpose of bolting the walls to the slab (instead of using our conventional flooring), we do have a few guidelines to follow to ensure the shed can be built properly.

1. The slab must be 4" larger (total) than the footprint of the Shed.

  • A 10'x12' Shed should have a slab base of 10'4"x12'4"

2. The slab must be square

  • If the slab is not square it can cause the Shed to be "warped" creating a larger overhang on one end, and a smaller overhang on the other, like taking a square and squeezing in opposite corners.

3. The slab must be level.

  • If the slab is not level, this can cause dips and raises in the walls which can make it difficult to install the walls and roof properly.

4. The slab must be a minimum of 4" thick.

  • The slab must be thick enough for the anchors to grip concrete in order to properly secure the floor plates in place.

*In the case that a slab is not square, if it is at least a few inches larger than the footprint of the Shed then this will allow some room to shift the floor plates such as to make the floor square. However, it is best that both of these guidelines are met.
